is a joint scientific
project carried forward by the
University
of Namibia (
UNAM)
and the
Namibia University of Science
and Technology (
NUST).
The goal of
NAISSMA is to boost
the internationalization of the Namibian
Scientific environment through the power
of mathematics, by easing meetings between
African and non African pure and applied
mathematicians. Moreover it aims also to
the promotion of the so called
THIRD
MISSION of the University, according
to the guidelines exposed below.
NAISSMA arises as the crowning of
two years of intense and enthusiastic work
performed within the framework of LMS-MARM
project through the collaboration of UNAM
and NUST. It promotes the
achievements of sustainable scientific
goals in the field of mathematics in
agreement with the
MARM
vision program for the years 2021 and 2022
(through the action of the grant recipient
Letterio Gatto).
NAISSMA benefits of the joint
support of many important Namibian and
International Institutions. Indeed, it is
proudly supported by the London
Mathematical Society and many diplomatic
representatives. The Italian one, in
particular, collaborated to the
organization and realization of the
First
Namibian Olympiad of Mathematics.
One of the NAISSMA's goal is to put a
further focus on the strategic role
of
Mathematics, whose initial
letter
M is the final one
of the magic acronym
STEM
which the
Vision 2030 Agenda of United
Nation for the sustainable development
relies upon. Mathematics carries the
biggest rate of strategical impact within
the STEM disciplines due to its ubiquity
in both fundamental and applied sciences
and it is the cheapest practice to the end
of the scientific and technological
enhancement of a young Nation. In
particular the school meets the targets
4.9,
4A, 5.8,
17.6,
17.8, 17.9 among the 17
Sustainable
Development Goals.
The way
LMS-MARM induces an
irreversible flourishing of the Namibian
mathematical environment is by
enlarging and getting engaged with an
international network of scientific
relationships.
NAISSMA is
the most important effective tool towards
this end, based on gathering
together distinguished mathematicians from
several areas of the world. These are
scholars who have already contributed to
the training activity of young talented
students in scientific developing areas
and who are nowadays internationally
recognized as professional mathematicians.
